Transforming Education in Rhode Island: What’s the story?
We are proud that, through our Race to the Top grant, we have brought teachers and school leaders together to work in partnership toward transforming education. We asked Rhode Island educators to reflect on work that has transformed teaching and learning in their schools. We hope you will enjoy reading these “success stories” from across our state!

Face-to-face meetings with Data Use PD were particularly beneficial.


A team of two administrators, a Reading Specialist and a classroom teacher participated in all of the Data Use modules. One of the administrators, the teacher and the Reading Specialist then brought the tolls to weekly Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

What we found surprising about our involvement in Race to the Top...
With the constellation of RTT initiatives, many of the PD activities are in the form on online modules. While the quality is mostly good, finding the time to organize Communities of Practice around these can be a challenge. What was particularly beneficial about the Data Use was how the meetings were face to face, spread out over the course of the year, and facilitated by a knowledgeable guide.

We have created a sustainability plan that will help us continue our work.
